But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is an instrument whom I have chosen to bring my name before Gentiles and kings and before the people of Israel.
— Acts 9:15 (NRSV)

Dear Friends,

As some of you know, our New Hampshire Conference has been in the process of searching for a new settled minister following the departure of Rev. Gary Schulte. This last year, in the interim, we have enjoyed the very capable leadership of the Rev. Dr. Charles Buck as the Transitional Conference Minister. I have personally enjoyed getting to know Charles, particularly through my work with the Committee on Church and Ministry. I’ve invited him to lead worship for us on the 12th of August, and I encourage you to come and hear his encouraging words.

Now, I am able to announce that the search committee has chosen a candidate for the settled position. The Rev. Gordon M. Rankin served as the Conference Minister for the south Dakota Conference, and more recently has been serving as the Transitional Associate Conference Minister for the Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota Conferences. According to the Search Committee announcement, “He was instrumental in the planning and execution of the three Conferences sharing one staff. Gordon’s sense of covenant, his passion for bringing out the gifts of others, and his sense of humor will all be assets to him and to us here in New Hampshire.”

As is true in our local churches, a candidate for Conference minister must be confirmed by vote at a gathered meeting of the Conference. A special meeting has been called for Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Laconia Congregational Church, UCC, at 11 AM. Unfortunately, due to my vacation schedule, I will not be able to attend this meeting, and several of our usual conference delegates, who represent our church at conference gatherings, will be unavailable as well. However, any member of our congregation is eligible to serve as delegate. I’m hoping some of you will consider attending this meeting and representing our church.

In addition to the meeting, there will be three prior “Meet & Greet” opportunities.

  • Thursday, August 2, 6 to 8 PM, at Gorham Congregational Church, UCC (143 Main Street)
  • Friday, August 3, 9 to 11 AM, at N.H. Conference Center (140 Sheep Davis Road, Pembroke)
  • Friday, August 3, 6 to 8 PM at United Church of Christ, Keene (23 Central Square)

If you would like to represent our church at the special meeting, or would like to attend one of the Meet and Greet sessions, please contact either Linda or Lauren in the office. They have all the information you will need.

Yours in Grace,
Rev. Kevin
