Introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Learn to stay more centered to reduce anxiety, depression and help improve numerous medical conditions.
Led by Rev. Dr. Emily Geoghegan, an ordained minister and licensed clinical psychologist. She has served churches as a settled and interim minister. She focuses much of her work on spiritual growth and development, and stress management through mindfulness meditation. She enjoys working in the community as well, teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Management Skills, particularly with homeless and prison populations.
Her workshop on September 17th is an introduction to Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction as developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and taught at UMass Medical Center since 1979. Mindfulness has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression, and can help improve numerous medical conditions. Its connection with the Christian practice of Centering Prayer will be explored as well. Participants will learn some simple techniques to help them learn to stay more centered in the present moment and to begin to deepen a relationship with Silence and Inner Peace.
