“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant which they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord. But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each man teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
— Jeremiah 31:31-34 (RSV)
Suddenly, Christmas is in the air. After Sunday’s Advent Workshop, our offices have been alive with seasonal preparations; from bulletins and newsletters, to concerts and children’s programs. This morning an intrepid group of decorators descended on our sanctuary with angels, wreaths and poinsettias. Many thanks to our decorators for all their hard work. Many thanks also to all who participated in this year’s Advent Workshop and Lunch. They made Sunday a very special day.
Our church always seems to be at its beautiful best in Advent, and the full transformation will be on display this coming Sunday. I hope you’ll plan to join us for our first Sunday in Advent, complete with the lighting of our first Advent Wreath candle and Advent Communion service, followed that afternoon by our Messiah concert. “Behold, the days are surely coming says the Lord.”
Yours in Grace,
