What's new at First Congregational Church

February Communion Service

Monthly Communion Service 

February 5th will be the day for our next informal communion service. The celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion is a important and vital spiritual practice for the church.   A number of people in our congregation have expressed the need for being able to partake in the sacrament with more frequency.

Lenten Adult Study

One of the most overlooked and yet important period of the history of the Christian church were the first 300 years of its existence.

How is it that the church survived and grew from a handful of frightened followers of a crucified Jewish preacher to the official religion of the Roman Empire and a force that would change the history of the world?

During Lent we will be hold a 6 week long study to look at this critical period in the history of the church.  The class will be supplemented by videos from the award winning series “From Christ to Constantine: Trial and Testimony of the Early Church.”    The classes will be held from Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 8:15 pm in the church parlor.

South Sudan Event

The Republic of South Sudan, a country of 8 million people, is one of the newest nations in our world, having been granted admission to the United Nations in July of 2011. South Sudan’s sovereignty comes after the 2005 peace agreement that ended decades of civil war between the Arab-dominated north and mostly Christian South. It is reported that during the civil conflict more than 2.5 million people were killed and more than 5 million were forced to flee the country as refugees.
